Winter’s Going…

DSC_0017-EditAnd I can genuinely say that I’m going to miss it… A bit. Now, I’ll admit that February’s been a bit of a dull one but on the whole, this winter has been amazing (apart for the lack of snow but, hey, you can’t have everything), from misty crisp mornings to stormy rolling skies it’s had pretty much everything… Apart from the snow… DSC_0055-Edit.jpgBut now, the Daffs are in full swing, the trees are starting to bud and I’ve been neglecting my camera… So Spring… Bring it on! ;o)

Shot this evening in Stourhead Gardens, I still can get over how quiet it is there in the evenings. That’s when the magic happens!

Breaking The Rules

Shooting wildlife with a 35mm prime… Who the hell does he think he is?…

dsc_9924-edit

Kinda works though and it’s sooo much sharper than my 18-105mm kit lens.

These guys were very much into each other and so much more elegant than the duck thugs rampaging up the other end of the lake! I must remember to take my 300mm next time, nowhere near as fast as the prime lens but, with the right settings, I might be able to catch them displaying and dancing.

Shot on Fonthill Lake, near Tisbury, Wiltshire. I’ll be back there tomorrow.

Don’t Pause…

DSC_8282-Edit-Edit.jpgGo headlong into Spring but keep the crisp coldness here for a little longer, please?….

Yesterday’s photo was an idea, today the photo was yesterdays fallback but I managed to hit Stourhead when the light was challenging but tremendous and the partially frozen lake offered a different take on a familiar scene.DSC_8274-Pano.jpgI’ve posted this one on one panorama across all my social media platforms and have to say, it’s been the best-received photo so far. Over 500 likes, shares and reactions. I know in this day and age that’s minuscule but to know that a humble moment in my day has touched, be it briefly, upon so many is mindblowing…. But just to let you all know, yes I do, do it for you, I mainly do it for me…

Manual 365/341 Not In The Birds Favour…

DSC_3265-Edit.JPGWhat with the thick mist that’s covered Wiltshire today I would expect the last thing anyone would be doing is standing in a field with a trusty gundog and Twelve Bore waiting for the scratchy alarm call and thumping wings of startled pheasants to bring the gun to bear but those, just off the side of the A338 at Burbage, know different.

I managed, despite the weather, to get a few shots today so there will be extra blogs tonight! ;o)

Peace Pheasants!

Manual 365/338 Don’t Mention Ophiuchus…

Moon conjunct Venus Because this aspect aligns two “yin” energies, it’s not one of those aspects that defines a person, but the characteristics are there, even if they’re in hiding! Every conjunction is modified by any planets that aspect it, and with Moon-Venus, perhaps even more so, as both the Moon and Venus are receptive energies and easily modified……..”

Oh, please do be quiet and just enjoy the reflected photons! Mars is at 10 o’clock too. Shot in Stourhead gardens this evening, a “over and under” Panorama of two 15 sec exposures.

Ok, I’m kidding and I’ve never realised how much Carl Sagan sounded like Agent Smith from The Matrix… As for the quote, just Google Horoscope bullshite!

Manual 365/ More: Dear Mr Photographer…

…It’s just a photo of you, taking a photo of me, taking a photo of you…

But I have two things to tell you:

One, My view was better and two…dsc_2267-editTell that grumpy bugger to your right to lighten up! dsc_2267-edit-2

Oh, and three, my view’s definitely better than yours! DSC_2312-Pano.JPG And you now know that I’ve got to trawl Instagram to try and find the picture he took!…. (If you find it let me know, it’ll be of a long haired hippy hanging about in a posh churchyard… Looking smug! ;o))

Manual 365/297 In My World…

… We have Ice in the Autumn.glassOk, a little jiggery pokery in today’s main shot but we’ll be lucky to get ice over the winter let alone in the autumn so a little bit of editing (I’ll detail what I’ve done below) hopefully will be forgiven.

When I got up this morning the sky was crystal clear, unfortunately, the higher the sun got  the thicker the clouds became and by the time I got into the gardens it was pretty much the same as yesterday so rather waiting in the same place I just carried on walking and pulled in tight.DSC_9598.jpgdsc_9569It’s still a glorious walk whatever the weather.

Right, techy bit for the main shot; 10 one second exposures, edited and the stacked in photoshop, mean tool applied to get the motion of the long exposure, unfortunately there was some movement in the trees and artifacts and aberrations from the different shots in the building and rope beside the path so I save the long exposure shot and then opened that, together with the first of the single shots as layers in Photoshop, added a layer mask and the painted through the original shot to add clarity to the trees then saved it back into lightroom and used the brush tool to reduce the dehaze and up the exposure on the water to give it the ice effect… Go me eh? ;O)
