35×35 It won’t hurt… Much

DSC_10000 (77)I can’t begin to tell you how much fun we had in the back garden with a few balloons, some tepid water and a willing participant. That stories over on my other platforms. (just search focalthingy and you’ll find me)

Here, I wanted to deal with a few technical details. I love off camera flash (OCF) the effects you can get are subtle, effective and they just add to an image,

Take the shot above, If I’d had the flash mounted on the camera rather than behind, below and to the right of the subject there wouldn’t have been the shadow on the end of the pin, the hand would have been washed out and the flash reflection on the balloon would’ve been on the front bouncing straight back into the camera. there are still a couple areas of improvement, namely the highlights on each side of the balloon but I can live with that. But I just can help going back to the pin… Really happy with this image! ;o)

And a massive shout out to my son Reece for all his help…DSC_10000 (93)Good job Son, good job! xxx

It’s a tad more than balmy…

But the chalk streams are still flowing from the deluge that we had a couple of weeks ago and looked so inviting I nearly dipped my feet.

DSC_5928.jpgIt’s good to see a stream looking so fresh and vibrant during our “heatwave”  and I’m sure, knowing the British weather and it being Glastonbury this weekend the stream will be replenished very shortly.

Shot’s take on the River Ebble, just outside Broad Chalke in Wiltshire.

Inspiration…

When it’s not there it’s a bit of a bugger but that’s the great thing with having a quite extensive back catalogue, you can go back to the great moments and give them a bit of a tweak and it makes you yearn to get back out there…

DSC_7705.jpgI need to rediscover myself and a second from the new years day sunset in Tresaith is pushing me in the right direction… ;o)

Gnats!

AKA If You Knuckles Aren’t Wet You’re Not Doing It Right!DSC_2560I love my camera but sometimes you just need to get low and when that’s above a fast flowing stream it tends to focus the mind…

I was in a river twice today so I’ll admit, I love my wellies too!

….is it a typo if the letters silent?…

Breaking The Rules

Shooting wildlife with a 35mm prime… Who the hell does he think he is?…

dsc_9924-edit

Kinda works though and it’s sooo much sharper than my 18-105mm kit lens.

These guys were very much into each other and so much more elegant than the duck thugs rampaging up the other end of the lake! I must remember to take my 300mm next time, nowhere near as fast as the prime lens but, with the right settings, I might be able to catch them displaying and dancing.

Shot on Fonthill Lake, near Tisbury, Wiltshire. I’ll be back there tomorrow.
