Definitely Deadwood…

DSC_6235

I spent a couple of hours in Bembridge this evening and had a bit of a mooch about on the beach. I’ve been here before and the first thing that strikes you when you get to the there is the Lifeboat Station so it was a case of been here, done that so I had a little wander a bit further afield and found something amazing.

I’m not 100% sure exactly what’s happened but I would expect it to be natural erosion but about 400 metres West from the station there’s a clump of fully grown trees protruding from the shingle beach, some of them right on the high tide line. All of them dead but still standing solid and sound. Normally the landslip of the erosion would have felled them but not these.

They look as though they’ve slumped into the sea and whilst the brine has killed them they’re roots were strong enough to keep them upright and resolute against the relenting tide… This won’t last and I know they’re fighting (or not ’cause they’re dead but you know what I mean…) a loosing battle and it’s going to be interesting keeping an eye on them in the coming years.

And, because I’m a sucker for leading lines I had crowbar at least one shot of the walkway to the lifeboat station in, featuring yours truly! ;o)

Boa Vista…

Ok, I have a confession to make…. I awoke this morning to the best sunrise of the holiday…

And then the beach, bar and sun kind of distracted me so I didn’t manage to get to Rabil but hey, as they say in these parts…

Home tomorrow… I’m going to miss this place….

Thanks Fatima, for the bracelet, it’s going to be my motto for 2018!

The Wells Of Silence

dsc_7982-pano-edit“Hello darkness, my old friend,
I’ve come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence…”

Guess who’s been Rock Banding! ;o)  And going through some more of the shots from Osmington Mills, this one was looking over towards Portland, the land mass on the left.

Be Like Liquid

Strange times… I’m enjoying the fact that I’m not having to chase a shot for the day and actually enjoying seeing more and not constantly thinking I must get my camera. I know that means there’s going to be times when I miss a shot but sometimes you need to see things rather than look at things through the viewfinder.

I also have the chance to meander back through the 50,000 or so shots I got last year and maybe tweak one or two, strange though, that many shots and I can remember every single day, where it was and how I was feeling, for someone who had a job to remember last week that’s quite a mind funk!

They promise -6 tonight and there’s a great spot on my way in to work in the morning, best leave early then! ;o)

Manual 365/366 Well, Here We Are!

My last post on my Manual challenge… I could go on about how, through the help of others, I have begun to master the art of photography, to place my own stamp on my work and to think that little bit differently, to see that bit more. I could say how my confidence in myself has grown and how I am better able to accept constructive critique, enable the ignorant and ignore the arrogant.

I could do all of that but actually, I think I’ll end this with the most important thing in my life…dsc_7456-editMy family.

(and my daughters previously unknown ability to shoot water from her fingertips…)

To those who come here often, you know who you are, thank you so so much!

And to All, may I wish you a happy and prosperous 2017!

Here’s to the next 7 billion mile trip around the sun and all the photons to capture that will bring!

Just call me 365 Warrior Peeps! ;o) XXXXX

Manual 365/364 On A Mission…

DSC_7309.JPGThis time of year you need to make sure you’re correctly suited and booted for whatever the world can throw at you… And my advice? Wear Wellies!DSC_7313-Pano.JPGAnd that’s another one ticked off the list for the year, a beautiful lady under a waterfall!
