Just popping in…

I was just trying to compose a blog post on my new website and thought, I know, I’ll pop back over to where I used to be a proper blogger and get some inspiration fully expecting to have to blow out the cobwebs and give it a bit of shake to make it work again but, no… It’s been kept clear by a couple of regular visitors. So, i felt the need to drop you a line to say, thank you so much for visiting and please head over to focalthingy.com to keep up with my most recent work and, with the risk of sounding like some faceless internet celeb (I’m not) news. In the meantime, this was the view from Marsaskala in Malta this morning! X

There is no greater beauty that seeing nature at work, right in front of you.

The tiny maelstrom caused by the receding wave on the beach at Kimmeridge bay, a brief moment on a beautiful afternoon but, within that small current lies the nature of the universe. The significance of that is not lost on me. I could walk less than 15 steps from this point and see an ammonite, fossilized in the sedimentary rock for hundreds of millions of years. It’s perfectly proportioned segments spiraling away from a midpoint, governed by the very same laws that created this scene. From the mini maelstrom to the source of every photon captured.

This, for me, is why I do what I do!

The Universe know’s what it’s doing, let’s treat it nice and let it do it’s thing!

Not A Pleasant Plucker…

I need to cover a couple of caveats before I get into this blog post.

Firstly, I am a Landscape photographer and, on occasion, will hop over a gate or two to get a different composition.

Secondly, I will always be respectful of the land and those who tend it.

Thirdly, I’m really not very good at confrontation, and if my friendly (yes, I know you’re going to have a pop) “Hello!” is met with a passive aggressive. “Can I help you?”

“No, not really…” (I’m stood in this wonderful field with a camera and I know what I’m doing) was probably not the right response. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I think he thought I was someone that I’m not and my back was put up (wrongly because it was his land after all) by his demeanor.

It wasn’t all bad though, we had a moment of reverse selfies…

I wonder what he’s going to do with the photo of me?

Oh, and the dog scared Bejesus out of me too!

“There are places I’ll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I’ve loved them all
But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more
In my life– I love you more”
This is not a project, this is my life…
